Fifteen (15) pre-selected Learners just received the wonderful news of passing the Accreditation and Equivalency Test (AET) of the Department of Education. (http://www.dep.ed.gov.ph/als-ae) Earlier around March 2016, eighteen (18) Learners were endorsed to take the test scheduled last April 17, 2016. Fifteen (15) of these learners successfully passed the test giving DLSU's Alternative Learning System Program an 83% passing rate for its 4th Batch of Learners. The program now has a total of fifty-six (56) AET passers since its inception in 2013. The DLSU-ALS is managed by the Center for Social Concern and Action as integral part of its University Community Engagement and Development Program (UCEDP) headed by Joseph Rosal. UCEDP is the lead unit of COSCA which is implementing direct Community Engagements as one of the strategic directions of the university and implements the localization of the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Four major components are highlighted as main strategies for the localization of the 17 SDGs namely: Environment with Disaster Risk Reduction, Health and Wellness, Education and Social Entrepreneurship. On education, UCED maximizes the implementation of DepEd’s ALS as a means to concretize the vision-mission of the university to be in service with the marginalized poor and translates the need for accessibility and inclusivity of SDG Number 4: Ensure inclusive and quality education for all and promote lifelong learning.
The ALS is a parallel learning system in the Philippines that provides a practical option to the existing formal instruction. When one does not have or cannot access formal education in schools, ALS is an alternate or substitute. ALS includes both the non-formal and informal sources of knowledge and skills (http://www.deped.gov.ph/als) The ALS sessions are done from Monday to Friday around 1pm-4pm in Tuluyan Center beside St. Lasalle Pre-School. Learning Year starts every February and ends around November but may also extend depending on the date of the national AET. DLSU-ALS is managed through its Lasallian Accessible, Relevant and Alternative Learning (L-ARAL), a sub- component of UCEDP. DLSU Personnel and Students are most welcome to be volunteer Teachers, Resource Persons, Tutors and Resource mobilizers. For more details, please contact Leo Q. Tadena, L-ARAL Development Specialist through [email protected].
